The sporophore or mycelium of Polystictus versicolor (L) family Polyporaceae.

Characteristics
The pileus semiorbicular or shell-like, coriaceous, usually jointed with each other as imbrication, and with concentric half-annulus bands, multicoloured; the gill white; without stipe. Sweet and bland in taste, slightly cold in nature, and attributive to spleen, lung and liver channels

Indication
1. Invigorate the spleen and eliminate dampness: For spleen deficiency syndrome with anorexia and loose stools. Recently, used hepatitis, hepatocirrhosis, nephritis, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.

2. Relieve cough and dyspnea.

3. Anticarcinogenic: For leukemia, lymphoma, early stage of liver cancer, and cancers of the stomach, breast and cervix.

Pharmacological Action
1. Its polysaccharide increases the amount of macrophages and promotes phagocytic function,and enhances the rates of lympliocyte-blastogenesis and rosette forming.

2. Antagonizing immunosuppression caused by cyclophosphamide, 5-Fu or cortisone.

3. Inhibiting the synthesis of DNA and RNA in tumor cells, and alleviating the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Administration
Instant granules: 1 package tid.

Ampoule (containing 40mg of its polysaccharide): 1 ampoule IM bid, 4 weeks as one course, another course may be continued after an interval of 2 weeks; or 3-4 anipoules added in 10% glucose solution 300 ml IV for drips daily for 10 days, and then continue for 10 days after an interval of 1-2 weeks.
