The bark of Eucommta ulmoides Oliv., family Eucommiaceae.
Characteristics
The bark appearing as flat, varying in size, 3-7 mm thick. Outer surface
grey-brown,
with longitudinal cracks, lenticels seen when cork remained; inner surface
dull purple and smooth. Numerous fine silvery and elastic sticky filaments
presenting when broken. Prepared as thick strips. Sweet and slightly acrid
in taste, warm in nature, and attributive to liver and kidney channels.
Indication
1 Invigorate the liver and kidney, strengthen the tendons and bones: For
deficiency of the liver and kidney manifested as soreness of the loin
and knees, flaccidity of lower limbs, and infantile paralysis.
2. Soothe
the fetus: For threatened abortion due to hypofunction of the liver and
kidney.
3.
Lower blood pressure: For hypertention, especially those with deficiency
of the liver and kidney.
Pharmacological
Action .
1. Hypotensive.
2. Promoting
phagocytosis of mononuclear phagocytes.
3. Sedative
and diuretic.
Administration
Decoction:
9-15g; fried sample is better for hypertension
