| Development of Modern Acupuncture | |||||||||
|
On the foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine, modern Acupuncture has improved significantly in channels and collaterals, points puncture techniques as well as their clinical applications and studies.
Besides the study of channels and collaterals under the guidance of ancient literatures and diagrams, Chinese doctors also stress heavily in their researches on the commonly-seen natural phenomena of channels and collaterals. The location of points receives the priority in acupuncture training. Students are required to practice on man body the location of points; the mastery of precision and a good knowledge of point characteristic are compulsory requirements for students, At present, there are research projects studying the anatomical structure underneath points undertaken to determine the angle and depth of needling to avoid accidental injuries to vital organs. Now, remarkable success has achieved in standardizing the names of points and point locations. The standard established is expected to unify international Acupuncture terms, unbinding the development of this medical science from the hindrance of ideological differences. Today, Acupuncture charts and models for educational purposes are made to include latest research findings. The electrical glass model of channels and collaterals and points is designed to display point locations, meridian distribution and their relations to Zang-fu(guts) in a nonstatic, livelier way. Small models are convenient for the study of channels and collaterals and points. The study of needling manipulation should strive to adopt veteran practitioners' clinical experiences. It is necessary for learners to practice diligently. In addition to practice on papers or on cotton pads, students are required to practice on their own bodies to bodily experience needling sensation. The goal of practice should aim at minimizing needling pains and obtaining good needling response. Finger-manipulation is a fundamental clinical technique. In addition, there is also the developed electro-acupuncture therapy. Their Acupuncture application is called intra-dermal needle, a kind of short, tiny needle, specially designed for embedding in the skin. It is commonly used in particular points or other locations for embedding. Besides auricular puncture, there is scalp puncture appropriate for treating various health problems by needling points on the head these days. New Acupuncture appliances and instruments help facilitate clinical applications. There is point radiation treatment using argon laser. Electrical warm needling therapy is a common clinical procedure. They are using infrared laser as therapeutic apparatus. In order to preserve and advance China's Acupuncture science, Chinese doctors apply innovative, scientific know-how and procedures in studying modern Acupuncture and moxibustion. Comprehensive clinical experiences are documented in detail. In the meantime, many comprehensive lab studies are being conducted. Investigations concerning the activity of systems and organs based on immunology, physiology, biochemistry, etc., have been carried out. Successful results have been reported on the mechanical probing puncture therapy. The application of Acupuncture anesthesia provides a new perspective on Acupuncture therapies. It is considered an important achievement integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine. It also gives an impetus to clinical and experimental studies on Acupuncture. By international scientific exchanges in recent years, acupuncture has been widely adopted all over the world. Since 1975, at the request of World Health Organization (WHO), the International Acupuncture Training Center has been established in Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing. These institutions are responsible for educating acupuncture students from many countries and areas The First International Acupuncture Conference was held in Beijing, China in Nov, 1987. Extensive scientific exchange activities were carried out among acupuncturists and experts from all over the world during the event. China is the birthplace of acupuncture. At present, the tasks at hand are analytical studies of ancient medical literatures, investigations of clinical outcomes and comprehensive researches on the acupuncture mechanism by modern scientific methods. Yes, Acupuncture will be rapidly advanced under global collaborations. It is predictable that extensive worldwide clinical practices and lab experiments will lend more importance to this branch of world medicine. DaMo Qigong advocates the effective combination of Qigong and Acupuncture. The doctors should have the ability of sending out different vita-vapor in combination with acupoints puncturing, thus remarkable effectiveness can be achieved.
